2023 CUFA BC DISTINGUISHED ACADEMICS AWARDS

For Immediate Release – Port Moody, BC, October 26, 2022) – The Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC (CUFA BC) is pleased to announce a call for nominations to the 2023 Distinguished Academics Awards.

The CUFA BC Distinguished Academics Awards series includes three awards, each recognizing the valuable contributions to scholarly research beyond the academy of faculty at research universities across the province. The CUFA BC Distinguished Academics Awards celebrate the ideas that contribute to the non-academic community and demonstrate the necessity and vitality of public university-based research and scholarly activity.

  1. Early in Career Award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by scholars at relatively early stages in their careers.
  2. Ehor Boyanowsky Academic of the Year Award recognizes specific and recent outstanding contributions to the community beyond the academic through research or other scholarly activity at any career stage.
  3. Paz Buttedahl Career Achievement Award recognizes sustained outstanding contributions to the community beyond the academy through research or other scholarly activities by an individual or group over the majority of an academic career.

The award winners will each receive a plaque, $2,000 cash award, and will celebrate with friends and colleagues at a gala. Nominations are open to members of the faculty associations at Royal Roads University, Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, University of Northern British Columbia, and University of Victoria.

Nominations close January 31, 2023 with an awards ceremony to take place May 3, 2023 in Victoria, BC.

CUFA BC represents over 5,500 faculty members, including professors, professional librarians, lecturers, instructors, and other academics at five research universities in BC, which include University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria, Royal Roads University and University of Northern British Columbia. CUFA BC celebrates over fifty years of working closely with the member faculty associations at each institution. Our purposes are to support high-quality post-secondary education and research in BC and to advocate for the interests of our members.
